Description

In the research and production department "STEKLO" ("GLASS"), research and development are carried out in three directions: optical glasses, including chalcogenide glasses, laser glasses and glass ceramics. In the direction of "Optical glasses", work continues on expanding the catalog of optical (more than 70 brands) and radiation-resistant (more than 60 brands) glasses. New types of glasses are being developed, including high-temperature ones.

In the direction of "Laser glasses", one of the latest technologies created by the scientists of the Institute is the technology of synthesis of light-absorbing glasses for the cladding of disk active elements. The products manufactured using this technology surpass in quality the glasses previously used for these purposes.

Among the latest achievements of the institute is the development and launch into serial production of 11 codes of colored optical glass. This large-scale work, carried out over the past few years, ensured the independence of the Shvabe Holding from imported optical materials. These works also made it possible to successfully implement projects for the creation of colored glasses of various colors that do not contain harmful contaminations, under a contract with the companies "Swarovski" and "Preciosa".

In the direction of "Glass ceramics", the institute carried out the development of glass-ceramic materials based on nano-sized crystals of various types, that impart fundamentally new properties to the material. On the basis of these innovative products, nanostructured materials with a coefficient of thermal expansion close to zero for astro-mirrors and laser gyroscopes, glass-ceramics for high-performance passive Q-switches operating in an eye-safe spectral range, high-performance diffuse reflectors, electro-optical glass-ceramic elements and gradient-index materials are being created in the institute.
